Physical therapy includes two types of treatment forms -
Our Electrotherapy intervention uses the following -
Shortwave diathermy (SWD)SWD is a treatment that uses electromagnetic energy to produce deep heating in joints and soft tissues. The waves generated by the machine allow body to produce heat from within the targeted tissue. This form of heat can be applied to deeper structures than other form of heat treatment. Thus, SWD can effectively relieve joint pain, improve soft tissue healing and improves the mobility of tissue as they heal.
Ultrasound/ultrasonic therapy cause mechanical vibrations from high frequency soundwaves on skin and soft tissue via aqueous medium. It is used to treat medical problems especially musculoskeletal problems like inflammation from injuries (Sprain, Bursitis, and tendinitis). The application of ultrasound can be helpful in reduction of inflammation, reducing pain and healing of injuries and wounds.
Spinal traction is a form of decompression therapy that relieves pressure on spine by applying gentle traction force, hence expanding space between the vertebrae. It gently stretches the muscle and connective tissue of neck and back thus improving circulation and exchange of fluid within discs. It is used to treat herniated discs, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, pinched nerves, back and neck conditions.
TENS is a method of pain relief involving the use of a mild electrical current. The electrical impulses can reduce the pain signals going to the spinal cord and brain, which may help relieve pain and relax muscles. TENS may help in treating the symptoms of postoperative pain, joint pain, neck and back pain, arthritis and sports injuries.
Interferential therapy is type of electrotherapy treatment that uses electric currents to stimulate tissue which is more effective in reducing pain and swelling. IFT is often used for treating chronic post traumatic pain and post-surgical pains. It is widely used for pain relief, muscle stimulation, increased blood flow and reduction of oedema. IFT is it reported to be a safe intervention for pain relief with virtually no side effects.
